Samsung NX11, Hybrid Camera

Samsung NX11 has similarities with the previous series, NX10. There is a slight revision undertaken in its handgrip. Now, Samsung is little bigger so it has more solid grip. But the rest, the NX11 body is the same as NX10.

Unlike other mirrorless systems such as Micro Four-Thirds (MFT) which already has standard for its mounting lens, Samsung chose another path with its own mounting system that is NX Mount. Until now, Samsung has pretty large collection of lenses with this NX Mount. One of them is series of i-Function lens which has several parameters in the camera settings when users want to take pictures.

There is a big difference between NX11 and  NX10. NX11 has supported the i-Function lens natively, while in NX10, users have to update the firmware first. Camera parameters which can be set through the iFn lens ring is quite complete and this settings is frequently accessed when shooting. By pressing iFn, users can set ISO, lens aperture, shutter speed, even whitebalance.

NX11 offers flexibility for users to set all parameters to capture the moment. In addition to full mode P, A, S, and M, NX11 also has Smart Auto that smart enough to detect environmental conditions. Unfortunately, using AMOLED screen is quite "deceptive" because the results on the screen often brighter than when displayed on a computer monitor.

Armed with same sensor with NX10, NX11 is not afraid to compete with other entry level DSLR. CMOS sensor in APS-C size certainly has its advantages, especially when compared to MFT system. For the results, even at ISO 1600, users still get clean picture and fit for use. The annoying noise appears when using ISO 3200.

The fundamental renewal of Samsung NX11 is directly support to the collection of i-Function lens. Addition of other features like Panoramic mode, and choice of aspect ratio 1:1 /16:9 looks interesting although not significant overall. However, NX11 offers intuitive control, particularly for beginners, and also having competitive image quality compared to other brands in same class.
