D3100 is the result of long evolution of Nikon DSLR in creating the most ideal camera for beginner. Since the success of D40 in 2007, Nikon is rather lazy to make a surprise and tends to continue D40 with similar products, the D40x and D60. Even when introduced D3000, Nikon does not want to brings live view feature and movie mode. D3000 only surprise by embedding AF module with 11 points (such as D5000) and 3D tracking AF, and larger LCD screen.
But finally they enhance D3000 with D3100. Some important changes in D3100:
- Provide live view feature and full HD movie
- Change sensor from CCD to CMOS
- Increase resolution from 10 MP to 14 MP
- Increase maximum ISO from 1600 to 3200
- Add useful drive mode lever (including Quiet Shutter Release)
- Using second generation EXPEED processor
